Harlan Coben, Tell No One
Doctor David Beck (called "Beck") and Elizabeth Parker are childhood sweethearts, celebrating the thirteenth anniversary of their first kiss on Beck’s grandfather’s property, lake Charmaine, Pennsylvania, as they do every year. On that night however, something goes very wrong: Elizabeth is snatched away and Beck left unconscious. Three days later, Elizabeth is found dead, victim of a serial killer nicknamed KillRoy…
Eight years later, Beck hasn’t gotten over the loss of his wife, despite the support of his sister Linda and her girlfriend, plus-size top model Shauna, who is also Beck’s best friend. One day, Beck gets a mysterious e-mail asking him to click on a link at "kiss time". "Kiss time" was something private between Beck and Elizabeth, or was it really? Is Elizabeth back from the dead or is it all a big hoax? Shortly after, Beck receives another e-mail with the injunction to "tell no one". Is someone watching? Beck will have to answer all these questions in order to find the truth and stay alive…
Tell No One is a fast-paced thriller that is difficult to put down once started. The author managed to build suspense by delaying the revelation of a truth known in part by each one of the characters, inserting action scenes and focusing on various characters in turn. The plot itself is rather simple and could be summed up in a couple of lines, but the author managed to arrange it in a clever and engaging manner.
Not the best thriller I have ever read, Tell No One still held my interest until the last page, even if I would have wished for a more twisted ending, a more earth-shattering revelation. This is my first Harlan Coben novel, and I will probably try another one…
Tell No One is a good book to read on the beach…
